National Museum Of Singapore

The actual once-little history museum, the previous Singapore History Museum, has recently undergone an enormous renovation. This beautiful 120-year-old building hasn't only been restored, but may be expanded to more than two times its original size by including a striking modernist wing to the trunk of the building. Cleverly, the brand new wing is invisible from the leading. An ingenious glass-ceilinged walkway links the old and new wings and offers a perfect point to look at the magnificent Victorian dome with it's stained-glass panels and zinc fishtail tiles.

The actual large History Gallery, based in the brand new wing, tells the story of Singapore from 2 points of view: from a historian's perspective as well as from the "man on the road, " accompanied by state-of-the-art media exhibits designed to bring history to life and allow it to be accessible for all visitors. You choose which story you'd like to listen to, then choose the corresponding audio headset which will guide you through the display. The four Living Galleries are on the 2nd floor of the old side and show objects and components of everyday Singaporean life: meals, fashion, film, and photography.

The actual museum conducts free guided excursions in English Monday through Fri at 11am and 2pm, as well as on Saturday and Sunday at 11: 30am as well as 3: 30pm; the tour requires 1 to 1 1/2 several hours. The building itself is a combination of colonial and contemporary structures; a free tour that concentrates just on the architecture emerges Friday through Sunday at 3: 30pm.
